CUHK hosts Chinese New Year Media Gathering and announces the establishment of the Zhizhen School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held a Chinese New Year Media Gathering at the CUHK Art Museum today (6 February), welcoming the Year of the Snake with joy. The new CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming hosted the event alongside Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Faculty Deans. During the event, he extended greetings to media friends and announced the establishment of the Zhizhen School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences (Zhizhen School or “the School”).

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held a flag-raising ceremony today to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The event commenced at 10:30am at CUHK’s flag-hoisting platform, where the CUHK’s Student Flag Guards conducted the ceremony. The national flag was raised alongside the HKSAR flag and the CUHK flag, accompanied by a rendition of the national anthem.
CUHK was honoured to welcome more than 180 guests to the ceremony, including Council Chairman Professor John Chai Yat-chiu, Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan and Council members. The ceremony was also attended by other guests, senior management team members and representatives from colleges and faculties, as well as staff, students and alumni of the University.

CUHK holds its 60th Anniversary Banquet Over 2,000 guests mark major milestone in Asia’s higher education
The Chinese University of Hong Kong held its 60th Anniversary Banquet tonight (10 December), bringing together over 2,000 CUHK students, staff, alumni, mainland and international partners, and friends to celebrate the institution’s achievements, culture and academic spirit.
The honourable Mr Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong government and CUHK alumnus attended as Guest of Honour. Mr Chan delivered an address and congratulated the University on its diamond jubilee. Professor John Chai Yat-chiu, CUHK’s Council Chairman, Professor Rocky S. Tuan, CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President, and Ms Lina Yan Hau-yee, Chairperson of CUHK’s 60th Anniversary Celebration Steering Committee, also addressed the Banquet and spoke passionately about CUHK’s history and its future development.

CUHK holds 92nd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held its 92nd Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees today (9 November). Professor John Y. Chai, Chairman of the CUHK Council, presided at the Congregation, while Acting Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Alan K.L. Chan delivered an address. The day’s celebrations began with a formal flag-raising ceremony where the national flag of the People’s Republic of China, the flag of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the CUHK flag were raised to a rendition of the national anthem.
CUHK confers honorary doctorates on three distinguished people
Three distinguished people were awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Science, honoris causa, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to economic development, scientific and educational progress in Hong Kong and around the world (in alphabetical order of family name): Dr Norman Chan Tak-lam, Dr Norman Leung Nai-pang and Professor Helga Nowotny. Professor Nowotny was unable to attend the Congregation. The University conferred the degree on her in absentia.

CUHK holds National Day flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) today held a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The ceremony started at 10:30am at the flag-hoisting platform of Central Steps. The flag-raising was performed by the student flag guards of CUHK. The national flag was raised alongside the HKSAR flag and the CUHK flag to a rendition of the national anthem.

CUHK and The Charles K. Kao Foundation for Alzheimer’s disease launch new community dementia screening service to identify and prevent Alzheimer’s
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), in partnership with The Charles K. Kao Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease (Charles K. Kao Foundation), is launching the Charles Kao CUHK BEAT AD Service (Brain HEAlth Service for PrevenTion of Alzheimer’s Disease) (the Service), which aims to provide free, comprehensive, community-based Alzheimer’s disease screening to Hong Kong residents. With a generous donation from Dr Brigitte Lin Ching-hsia, BEAT AD Patron and Ambassador, the Service will identify elderly individuals who have early symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease or are at risk of the disease, and implement tailor-made preventive measures.

Student flag-guard team makes its debut at CUHK flag-raising ceremony to kick off the 2023/24 academic year
Today (4 September) is the first day of the 2023/24 academic year at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The University held a flag-raising ceremony at its flagpoles this morning, marking the beginning of the new term. For the first time, the flag raising was performed by CUHK’s student flag-guard team. The national flag was raised alongside the HKSAR flag and the CUHK flag to a rendition of the national anthem.
CUHK is honoured to have had about 140 guests attend the flag-raising ceremony, including CUHK Council Chairman Professor John Chai Yat-chiu, Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Council members, senior management team members, staff, students, alumni, Legislative Council members and friends of the University.

CUHK awards honorary doctorate of science to mRNA vaccine pioneer Professor Katalin Karikó
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) awarded the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa, to Professor Katalin Karikó at an honorary degree conferment ceremony on 4 August, in recognition of her significant scientific discoveries and life-saving achievements. After the ceremony, Professor Karikó delivered a distinguished lecture on “Developing mRNA for therapy” and talked about her research journey.
Professor Karikó is currently a Professor at the University of Szeged, Hungary, and an Adjunct Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. She is a Hungarian-American biochemist who specializes in Ribonucleic acid (RNA)-mediated mechanisms, and is best known for her contributions to Messenger RNA (mRNA) technology and COVID-19 vaccines. She collaborated with Professor Drew Weissman in the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania, finding a way to modify mRNA and developing a delivery technique to package the mRNA in lipid nanoparticles.

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is partnering with Times Higher Education (THE) to host the THE Asia Universities Summit on 21-23 June 2023. The three-day summit is themed “The Asian University in 2050”.
The opening ceremony of the summit was successfully held today (21 June). Officiating guests included Secretary for Education Dr Choi Yuk-lin, CUHK’s Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Rocky S. Tuan, and THE’s Chief Global Affairs Officer Mr Phil Baty.

Official opening of the CUHK Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Research Institute (Futian) to foster the I&T ecosystem of Shenzhen – Lok Ma Chau Loop
CUHK celebrated a new chapter in contributing to the national innovation and technology (I&T) agenda at the plaque unveiling ceremony of the CUHK Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Research Institute (Futian) (FITRI) on 28 March 2023. Located in the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Co-operation Zone in Shenzhen, FITRI is a strategic priority of CUHK in driving cross-border I&T collaborations in the year that marks the 60th anniversary of the University.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School held a reception event on Thursday 9 March 2023, kicking off its 60th anniversary campaign to celebrate the impact it created in business education, forging the largest network of business school alumni in the city over the past six decades. The event was attended by close to 200 distinguished guests, including CUHK management and advisers, as well as top-notch leaders from the private, public and social sectors, 80% of whom are ardent alumni from the School. It was a testament to its staunch alumni network, which comprises over 40,000 members in 49 locations.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) hosted the Annual Ceremony of the Co-operative Education Programme (Co-op@CUHK) on 24 February to celebrate the remarkable outcomes of its inaugural year. The first cohort of students achieved significant improvements in professional competencies and career readiness after completing full-time, full-pay, full-credit placements, while corporate partners identified promising talents well-suited to their organisations. Industry partners, members of the university and students attended the event to commemorate the occasion.
The exhibition Golden Techniques II: Art of the Chinese Goldsmiths, co-organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s Art Museum and the Chow Tai Fook Master Studio, will run until 21 May 2023. All members of the public are welcome, and admission is free.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) and the Shenzhen Municipal Government have signalled their intention to further collaborations on education, research and technology transfer through the signing of a tripartite supplementary agreement at a special ceremony held in the afternoon on 22 February 2023 at the Government House of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

深圳市委常委兼深圳市政府黨組成員鄭紅波於2023年2月9日率團到訪香港中文大學(中大),商討未來合作計劃。訪問團成員包括來自深圳市委大灣區辦公室、深圳市科技創新委、市工業和信息化局的代表。中大校長段崇智教授、常務副校長陳金樑教授,聯同醫學院、中大深圳產學研基地及創新香港研發平台相關領導和負責人,與訪問團就拓展教育合作,促進科技成果轉化,支持創新發展作廣泛交流。
