The programme was launched under CUHK 2025 as part of the initiatives for talent attraction and development.  It comprises three schemes targeting both senior and early careers scholars and scientists, namely:

(1) Vice-Chancellor Professorships and Visiting Professorships,

(2) Vice-Chancellor Early Career Professorships and

(3) Global STEM Professorships.
