Our Research Committee develops and maintains policies that further the University's aspiration to pursue productive research to the highest international standards.

The Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services (ORKTS) supports the University's research and knowledge transfer activities by providing a range of services to the University's researchers, namely grant and contract administration, academic editing, information services and management, entreneurial business and innovation management, as well as research portfolio management.

We have set up our own research institute in Shenzhen, with the support of the SZ Municipal Government, to provide a pivotal base for academics to conduct R&D, training and technology transfer, and to enable them to tap into resources from national grants and other significant research/ teaching funding schemes available in the Mainland.

The following funding programmes are now inviting applications:

External Competitive Funding Schemes:

Currently the RGC has three research funding schemes that provide funding for collaborative research projects among researchers and between institutions, namely the Collaborative Research Fund (CRF), Areas of Excellence (AoE) Scheme and Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS). The three schemes support different scale of projects. The Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) supports equipment grant and group research grant at the range of $2-$10 million. The Areas of Excellence (AoE) Scheme supports projects with ceiling of $60 million. The Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) supports projects with ceiling of $75 million. But both AoE and TRS do not have minimum threshold for the projects.

State Funding Schemes:

Check out the substantial funding initiatives from the State Government at http://www.szdo.cuhk.edu.hk/en-GB/research/research-funding. The Shenzhen Development Office (SZDO) is the liaison on the applications for national grants through the CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute (CUSZRI, 中大深圳研究院) and the CAS Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT, 中國科學院深圳先進技術研究所). It coordinates applications for plans and grants sponsored by the Central Talent Working Coordination Unit (中央人才工作協調小組) and the Ministry of Science and Technology, with the CUHK Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services.
