Pursuant to the review of the annual performance assessment procedures, Provost set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the relation between post-substantiation reviews and the faculty annual assessment exercise. In November 2011, the Deans Committee received the recommendations for stepping up the communication protocol on developmental feedback.

Terms of Reference

  • To review the existing academic personnel procedure regarding substantiated faculty in terms of professional development and achieving expectations.
  • To identify circumstances under which a formal post-substantiation review process will be initiated.
  • To study the relation between post-substantiation reviews and the faculty annual assessment exercise, including but not limited to institutional recognition, remuneration to faculty performance, workload assignment, and discipline.
  • To formulate consolidated proposals for policies regarding the above for implementation across all Faculties on the understanding that (i) conditions imposed by the CUHK Statutes and the Council are observed, (ii) Faculty-specific aspects should be minimized, and (iii) academic freedom and high academic performance at CUHK are protected and maintained.
  • To report recommendations to the Provost by the end of November, 2011.
